Merino Care for Long-Lasting Wear

Looking after your Merino wool garments ensures they stay with you for years to come. As a natural fibre, Merino behaves a little differently from synthetic materials: it breathes, responds to your body, and wears in uniquely over time.

You might notice some pilling or fluffing, especially in high-friction areas. This is completely normal and happens because Merino is made from ultra-fine, soft fibres ~ part of what makes it so comfortable to wear.

Light fluffing is also common in new garments as loose fibres naturally shed. The good news? Pilling usually settles down with wear and can easily be removed with a fabric comb or de-pilling tool.

These small changes are part of the journey with natural, high-quality wool, adding character to a garment designed to last.

Caring for your Merino

  • At Home

    • Wash your merino garments on a cold, gentle cycle.
    • Intense heat shrinks merino. Your wash cycle should not exceed 30 degrees in temperature.
    • Use a minimal amount of gentle or natural fabric detergent.
    • Do not use softeners or bleach.
    • Wash your merino garments with similar colours, or separate into lights and darks.

    On the Trails

    • A quick cold hand wash every few days will keep your merino feeling fresh.
    • Use a minimal amount of fabric detergent or gentle trail bar soap to avoid the ‘wet wool’ smell.
  • At Home

    • DO NOT tumble dry any of your merino wool products, they will shrink.
    • Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade.

    • Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade, over your bunk bed, or off the back of your pack as you are walking throughout the day.
  • At Home

    • Ensure your merino is clean and dry before storing. This will help prevent odours and long term stains.
    • To avoid stretching and mis-shaping, store your merino garments folded and flat.
